Police: Man wanted in central Pa. slaying, arson turns self in
(Hershey) — A man accused of strangling a woman in her central Pennsylvania home and then setting fire to the residence almost two months ago has turned himself in to authorities.
Police in Derry Township say 33-year-old Calvin Purdie Jr. turned himself in at the U.S. marshal’s office Wednesday morning.
Purdie faces Dauphin County charges of criminal homicide and arson in the May 23 death of 49-year-old Charlotte Chaplin.
Authorities allege that he killed the victim and then set fire to the house to cover up the crime. Investigators said he was living with Chaplin and dating her daughter at the time.
Court documents don’t list a defense attorney who could respond to the charges; numbers listed in Purdie’s name were out of service or didn’t allow a message to be left.
