(Gettysburg) — A state police trooper has shot and killed an Adams County man holding a kitchen knife after a domestic dispute.

Authorities were called to a home at 7 Staymen Drive in Menallen Township yesterday afternoonm when Jesse Lynn Drayer flagged down a pickup truck after being stabbed by his brother — Michael Drayer.

Troopers arrived to find Michael Drayer still chasing his brother. When Jesse Drayer, who is 40-years-old, sought refuge in the police cruiser, Michael attempted to reach him inside — while still holding the knife.

A trooper then shot and wounded him.

The 34-year-old was taken to Gettysburg hospital — where he was pronounced dead.

The trooper who fired his weapon has been placed on administrative leave, pending an internal investigation. That is a standard procedure in officer involved shootings.

The results of the probe will be provided to the Adams County District Attorney’s Office and the DA will decide whether the shooting was justified or not.

The Troop H Major Case team are investigating the officer involved shooting and will provide their investigation to the Adams County District Attorney’s Office for a determination as to whether the shooting was justified.
